CARIBBEAN MONUMENT
Photo Steve Russell Studios
This 1/10 scale model shows the proposed monument to Caribbean people who over the centuries have come to Britain to offer their service to its armed forces. The finished work will be almost 10m wide and will stand in the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, the first significant monument to this cause in Britain. Navy, army, air force and women’s services are each represented with a bronze figure and the merchant navy by a bronze relief map of ships in the Caribbean and Atlantic. The Combined Services badge will be carved under crossed palm trees in the Portland stone that forms the main body of the monument.
Figures from the period of the Second World War stand for those who have served in all periods.
