RONNIE BARKER

In 2010 work was completed on a large new theatre for the town of Aylesbury. A sculpture of the acclaimed actor and comedian Ronnie Barker was commissioned by Aylesbury Vale District Council for the open area in front of the building.

Barker's first experience of acting had been in the repertory company at Aylesbury's County Theatre in the 1940s. The statue represents him in the role of jailbird Norman Stanley Fletcher from the TV comedy Porridge. Barker looks wistfully up at the theatre as if reflecting on the long career that had started in the town so many years before.
